 “daring seductress”

“daring seductress”

For many travelers, shopping is reason enough to book a trip. Destinations like New York, Paris, and Milan are the Meccas of fashion and have an endless selection of stores to buy duds you can’t get at home. Tokyo is a hidden gem. Some of the most innovative and creative fashion lines are born in Japan. For example brands such as COMME des GARCONS, UNDERCOVER, A Bathing Ape and Yohji Yamamoto are some of the best-known Japanese fashion brands today.

I was very eager to feature last year’s Tokyo Fashion Week Fall 2019 and highlight their incredible bodies of work. Tokyo has unique access to amazing fashion only available in Japan. There is a wealth of Japanese clothing brands that have been pushing the envelope of style and designing stunning products with a high grade of excellence. I’m happy to pay my homage to Japan and present The Best Of Tokyo Fashion Week Fall 2019.

The beauty of the pieces being featured is that they are quite transitional. You can easily wear any of these pieces in the Fall and the Spring. I have chosen these designers for completely different reasons.

I hope to inspire 2 different types of women or one woman with a dynamic fashion sensibility. The professional woman who’s not afraid of making a statement, fashionable in her approach to business casual wear, and yet knows how to let loose in a beautiful slip dress.

Designer Yukimi Kawashima the founder of Aula Aila fashion brand sure knows how to put on a show. She made a big impact during Fashion Week by sending a top to bottom red ensemble down the runway. Her audience is a daring seductress.

I have spent quite a lot of time obsessing over the best red shades for my skin tone. Red is best known for being the signature color for passion and boldness, in other words, you cannot be shy while wearing red.

This coat is one of the best pieces I saw on the runway during the Tokyo Fashion Week Fall 2019. Designer Yukimi Kawashima picked a shade of red that compliments any skin tone.

The patches of black on the fur collar gives it a more relaxed look and yet elicits an overall feeling of opulence. This ensemble is a very bold statement and it takes a certain kind of woman to wear red from top to bottom. This woman is fierce, elegant, confident, and yet manages to be approachable. The shoes are just right.

I can imagine a range of age groups, from women in their 20s to women in their 50s wearing this coat. This look is perfect for an art opening in West Chelsea or for a night out on the town in New York City, Paris, or Milan. I have always been a big fan of the color red. A beautiful above-the-knee length silk slip dress underneath to finish the look.

Look #2

“ferry like and ethereal”

“ferry like and ethereal”

I’m very much in love with this look. Designer Yukimi Kawashima’s choice to pair this model with this dress is an example of the perfect marriage between beauty and strength. The dress is ferry like and ethereal. On the other hand, the model possesses raw beauty with tremendous strength and a sense of a femme fatal to her look.

The floral print is very transitional, this can be warned in the Fall and the Spring seasons. The model looks as if she is floating down the runway. I would have loved to have had an opportunity to interview Yukimi and get an insider’s scoop on where the inspiration for this dress came from. She has certainly tickled my feminine senses. Ravishing nude lips, smoldering smoky eyes, and a knockout black clutch to finish the look.

Look #3

sexy and yet subtle”

Designer Nguyen Cong Tri sure had me in mind when she decided to pair up this beautiful jacket with the grayish silver slip dress. I can really get into this. My Soho Chic side has a great appreciation for this ensemble. The best pairing of casual and elegance I’ve seen during Tokyo Fashion Week Fall 2019 so far.

This combination is a quintessential look for the young socialite, for example, a Kendal Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, or Bella Hadid. This look is for the girl that wants to look good without trying. One can easily wear this with a pair of booties, stilettos, or a cool pair of sneakers.

I’m happy to wear this ensemble to brunch at La Mercerie, window shopping in Soho, or a night out at Gospel. Once you take to jacket off there’s a big reveal. The overall look is sexy and yet subtle. Cool and yet chic, what else can a girl ask for. The floral print on the jacket showcases the youthful and carefree nature of Nguyen Cong Tri’s audience.

“the goddess has arrived”. This helps play down the dress and gives the ensemble a more unpretentious feel while the dress with the laced trimmed decollete brings on the sexy. The relaxed messy bun looks beautiful, and without a fuss. The layering of very delicate necklaces to accentuate the neckline to finish the look.

Look #4

“the goddess has arrived”

Designer Nguyen Cong Tri has done it again. This silhouette channels an ultra-sophisticated sense of comfort. It’s official the goddess has arrived. The floor-length slip dress looks like a second skin that breezes along as the body moves. Here is a more romantic approach than what I’ve seen on the runway during Tokyo Fashion Week Fall 2019. There’s extreme feminity, the lace bodice adds a touch of sumptuousness and the oversized see-through jacket enveloping volume adds a twist.

I can definitely see some of the best known young starlets such as Taylor Swift, Elle Fanning, or Zoe Kravitz wearing this dress in spectacular fashion on the red carpet. The designer knows her audience, evidently, she aims to please a younger clientele with a very sophisticated yet effortless sensibility. This look feels very complete. A small metal-studded black crossbody handbag to finish the look.

Look #5

“the epitome of modernity and sophistication”

Designer Tae Ashida’s women’s collection is the epitome of modern sophistication that every woman can easily identify with. The multi-textured, one-sided cape dress is a prime example of modernity and a-symmetry. A mix of velvet and viscose this is one of the best black to come down the runway at Tokyo Fall 2019 Fashion Week.

There is no Fall without the black. Another red carpet-worthy look perfect for the Tribeca Film Festival or a black-tie event at Cipriani. There is something altogether graphic about the use of two different types of velvets with two different shapes of sleeves. A gorgeous pair of diamond earrings to finish the look.

Look #6

“craves comfort without sacrificing her fashionable sensibility”

Once again I am seeing red on the runway and I simply cannot get enough. This ensemble is beautifully layered, the raw-edged tweed jacket has lots of texture. The printed scarf adds a nice touch and helps compliment the jacket by breaking down the red color.

A masculine wide-cut gray trouser couple with the tweed jacket is an excellent pairing, this allows the red jacket to be the statement piece. This is the best boyfriend look that I’ve seen at Tokyo Fashion Week Fall 2019. The woman wearing this ensemble is definitely well versed in the world of fashion, she lives in the city and always on the go. Tae Ashida’s audience craves comfort without sacrificing her fashionable sensibility.

This look is perfect for the office, a business lunch at Bacarrat, a day at the MET, shopping on Fifth Avenue, and even at the airport on your way to who knows where. A sophisticated alternative to wearing your Lulu Lemons’ on a flight, that’s for sure. The leather bag with a red accent adds a graphic color-blocking effect. It’s big enough to throw your iPad, a contract, or a business memo in there with your favorite magazine. A pair of aviator sunglasses to finish the look.
